Sen. Inouye holds a special place in the hearts of those of us working to support the U.S.-Japan partnership. His story reminds us of our shared history and how far we have come. It is fitting that the senator's last word was "aloha."
The nation has no idea yet what a great leader and cornerstone of our democracy we have lost this week. Because it was also his style to not call too much attention to himself, he tended to flow under the radar of D.C. politics. Rest in peace Senator.
