I realize I may be succumbing to Anglophilia here, and Bill Murray deserves serious consideration for Groundhog Day. But at least I didn't throw Fiennes or Daniel Day-Lewis into the mix as well. (Don't worry, Day-Lewis' day is coming.)
Thanks to a marvelously full-bodied performance by Michelle Yeoh and a complementary one by David Thewlis, The Lady overcomes its own obstacles -- principally ones of pacing -- to present a moving portrait of courage, resilience and conviction.
Just as this year's Nobel Peace Prize winners -- three women -- were announced, this film season features two films that focus on women rulers: one, Margaret Thatcher, a hawk; the other, Aung San Suu Kyi, a dove who is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate.
