The real priority of both the lame duck session and the new Congress should be creating jobs. We have more than 22 million people who are unemployed or underemployed, and the percentage of unemployed that are long-term has been at record levels.
There is no such thing as the US becoming the next Greece. There is no such thing as the US getting cut off from spending by the financial markets and forced to go begging to the IMF to get US dollars to spend.
It is time we shine a spotlight on the damaging policies of President Bush and the Republicans and rescue our country from its collective amnesia before Bush's true legacy -- nearly bankrupting the most powerful country in the world -- brings us to our knees.
Obama didn't win in 2008 by swerving to the middle. Instead of fighting for the ever-dwindling number of swing voters, Obama fought to win over the much larger number of voters who had turned their backs on the process.
