It is one thing for a group of anti-immigrant zealots to threaten teens and young adults to foist their agenda on the country. It is wholly something else for a federal judge to do so.
Unless he is stopped, the madness of Judge Hanen will lead to tragic results.
Texas and 25 other states filed a lawsuit to block President Obama's November 2014 executive action to help keep immigrant families together. The DAPA and expanded DACA initiatives would help parents remain in the U.S. temporarily to work, further their education, and support their families.
The case can only be understood in the context of politics, not law. It is part of a strategy of obstruction against Obama on one of the right's signal issues. That Texas is the lead litigant is unsurprising.
These actions will keep families together instead of tearing them apart. The Supreme Court should clearly see that that the arguments against these actions are politically motivated and are not backed by legal standing.
