Models Turned Actresses: How Will New 'Transformers' Star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Measure Up? (PHOTOS)

Katy Hall   |   May 31, 2010    9:38 AM ET

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit covergirl Brooklyn Decker has guested on 'Ugly Betty' and stars in Adam Sandler's upcoming movie 'Go With It' (see pictures from the set here), and Michael Bay found a replacement for Megan Fox in 'Transformers 3': Victoria's Secret angel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

There are plenty of models before them who have tried to cross over to the big screen, some quite successfully. Who did it best, and what do you expect from newbies Rosie and Brooklyn?

Supermodel mums Claudia Schiffer and Elle MacPherson were snapped looking effortlessly stylish as they chatted and laughed after dropping their kids off at school in Notting Hill. While Schiffer went for a pregnancy chic look in an oversized black T-shirt dress, with black tights, booties and a multicoloured leather patchwork Balenciaga bag, MacPherson opted for casual white jeans and a tee, topped off with a blazer and stylish black and gold flats.

Why the Return of Gorgeous Curvy Supermodels to Fashion Runways is a Victory for All Women!

Bonnie Fuller   |   March 12, 2010   12:40 PM ET

Make way for the return of big gorgeous glamorous supermodels!

First, toothpick models were fired by the Italian Prada design house and replaced by Victoria's Secret Angels in a surprising last minute move, the night before the show on Feb. 24. Then influential designer Marc Jacobs, filled his trendsetting Louis Vuitton show in Paris, Mar. 10, with full-figured supermodels -- of all ages -- including Elle MacPherson, 47, new mom Karolina Kurkova, 26, (her little son is 4 months old), Sports Illustrated and Leonardo DiCaprio favorite, Bar Refaeli, 24, French actress/supermodel Laetitia Casta, 31, as well as voluptuous Victoria's Secret Angel Adriana Lima, 28.

As stunning as these women are, they've been pretty much banished from top designer runways in recent years -- they've been considered "too comercial" by snooty fashion insiders. In other words -- us regular women might like to actually look like them and wear the clothes that they're modeling.

That was a no-no for these fashion types.

Now what could account for the sudden re-appearance of "rounder" models as New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn, described them.

Could it be because sales of luxury goods, including fashion, have plunged in the past year? The Camera della Moda, the Italian fashion governing body, released figures showing that 2009 saw the most dramatic drop in sales in 20 years! Revenues were down 15%. Well, if that's what it took to get healthy-looking beauties cataclysmically back in style --so be it.

But it's good news for all us women.

Here's why you should be cheering that the mega-skinnies have been kicked to the curb.

Plenty of actors have gotten their start as smalltime models, but not many supermodels have successfully transitioned to the screen.

Lily Cole is the latest runway darling to attempt a crossover career. She stars opposite Heath Ledger in the last movie he ever made, Terry Gilliam's trippy fantasy 'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus,' out Christmas day.

Which of these models have acting chops and which should keep their day jobs? You decide.

Would you rather be known as The Body - or the businesswoman?

The Body is my brand; it's been a wonderful gift. I've used that moniker to my advantage, and I'm incredibly grateful for the people who still perpetuate it.

Supermodel Elle Macpherson may be 44 with two kids, but she showed she still has what made her famous when she was snapped surfing in Australia during the past week. She reportedly spent this year solo while her sons had Christmas with their father Arki Busson and his new fiancee Uma Thurman. The pair were engaged in June.

The Australian Telegraph wrote of her surf skills:

Dressed in a wetsuit top, bikini bottoms and trademark cowboy hat, she showed plenty of raw talent.

Miller, who was crowned US surfing champion in 1965, said Macpherson appeared at ease in the water.

"She's a real natural. She's familiar and comfortable in the water,'' Miller has told The Sunday Telegraph.

"We had a few sessions together last year, and this time Elle picked up where she left off. She didn't miss a beat.''

Macpherson is in her native Australia while her kids are with their dad, Macpherson's ex-fiance:

Her boys, Flynn, 10, and Aurelius Cy, 5, spent the festive season with their father, Arpad Busson, and his new fiancee, actress Uma Thurman.
