Traveling from New York City, where even amongst 8.2 million people it's still possible to feel lonely, Arizona instantly made me feel at home. As a guest of Visit Mesa, I was provided with the chance to experience what this area had to offer, by exploring the unique farming communities in the area.
Many have decried the international response as deplorably slow. As a result, the consequences are jarring. The biggest lament is the obvious and horrific death toll. Along with a sick, dying and orphaned population, the crippling fear of being infected has rippling consequences on the affected countries and beyond.
I attended my first SXSWeco, a gathering of a global community to explore, engage and co-create solutions for a sustainable world, this year. As I think back on the experience, it was a mix of unexpected events and people, which provided me with several takeaways that can teach us all some important lessons.
