That both the liberal Ebert and the conservative Brooks muddle the facts shows that media's image of those with mental disabilities is just about the same, regardless of political affiliation. Clearly we are a long way from treating the disabled as equal citizens.
Sin is not about breaking rules. Rather, it is resistance to the creative power of God. Those who thought that they were on the side of God are revealed to be profoundly wrong. We might even call them hypocrites.
Math and science students deserve our support. But does that mean that we should abandon the study of philosophy, the history of art, or the analysis of society and culture? Is public higher education a place for skill acquisition or is it space for teaching young people how to think?
