Haley has been seen as a new Republican star for many years and many political observers believed she would be right at the top of the VP short-list in 2012. But that's never going to happen. Why? One reason -- Sarah Palin.

I never thought I would date a Republican. Not because I really contemplated it, but because as long as I didn't drive to Orange County, my chances of actually running into one felt slim to none.

The term "game change," like so many sports-oriented terms in politics, is decidedly over-used. But the events depicted in the Game Change film really do constitute just that, though not in the way that my friend Steve Schmidt intended it.

The GOP has a fundamental flaw -- an identity crisis -- and the only way they can cover it up is to have an actor be their presidential candidate. Consider the Republican candidates of the last thirty years.

This week we discuss the Dow's closing above 13,000; why the stock market is good for everyone; the Pennsylvania governor's misogyny; the crazy new Arizona anti-choice law; free states and anti-woman states, and other topics.

Every day people, like me, are banging their heads on their desks, asking "What is wrong with that woman?" "Why is she doing that?" "Doesn't she realize she's being used by a system that denigrates her?" Women in these positions clearly don't see it that way.

Unlike four years ago, it's the American voter, not a candidate, who now wants change, real change. They're going to continue to vote down every politician until they find a generation of elected officials that will face political realities. That's what the recent gyrating polls show.

The HBO film Game Change certainly portrays former vice presidential candidate and conservative firebrand Sarah Palin as ignorant, arrogant, erratic, impetuous and narcissistic. But the real villain in this saga is Sen. John McCain.

After months of promotion HBO's film on Sarah Palin and the 2008 campaign, Game Change, will air (finally) tonight.

The narrative of Game Change is one as old as government itself -- the corrupting influence of proximity to power on even the best of men.

The politics of celebrity -- the sexy candidate phenomenon -- leapt from the big screen to the campaign trail. Many seem to presume that a charismatic candidate is automatically capable of being a great leader. That's a formula for success in Hollywood, but is it right for American politics?
Geoffrey Dunn | Posted 05.09.2012
Contrary to what she has promulgated afterwards about believing in victory until the end in 2008, Sarah Palin, according to John McCain advisors, had long believed the loss was inevitable -- she had clearly set her sights on 2012.
Greg Mitchell | Posted 05.09.2012
The only thing surprising to me is that anyone at this late date would be surprised by any embarrassing facts about Palin. The truth has been known almost within hours of McCain lifting her out of obscurity back at the end of August 2008.
