A ruling yesterday by the Supreme Court not to overturn a Connecticut law restricting assault weapons, the Senate failed to move forward on four limited proposals involving access to firearms for those on terror watch lists. This availability of weaponry has not been lost on extremists.

Vision for a Post-Marriage Equality Era

Christian Fuscarino

The struggles of LGBT individuals continue every day, for recognition under the law or acceptance in their community. Let no one be under the impression that the struggle for true equality has ended. Let us not forget: just because a law is passed, it doesn't mean that everyone is treated equally.

I Couldn't Disagree More With What David Brooks Said In His Article "How Covenants Make Us"

I typically agree with much of what David Brooks has to say. However, I'm afraid that he was way off the mark with his article "How Covenants Make Us." Demographic diversity in the United States is a good thing. The problem has to do with the lack of integration and assimilation of demographically diverse communities.

In a sense, Donald Trump is correct that women who have abortions if the procedure is banned should face "some sort of punishment." Before you misconstrue my opinion, please note that I have always been an advocate of pro-choice.

Carol: A Real Love Story?

Joanne Fleisher | Posted 02.02.2016 | Queer Voices

t is not your typical lesbian love story. It lacks some of the passion and hot sex that makes many coming out movies compelling. But, when you encounter a magnetic attraction to someone that will rip your life to shreds, the unfolding of the love story may at first seem understated and unclear. When you are married to a man and your lesbian catalyst appears, anything can happen.

Shameful U.S. History Repeating Itself

On November 28, 2015, my spouse and I went to see Trumbo, which is based upon the life of Dalton Trumbo and how it was impacted during one of the most shameful times in U.S. history -- the McCarthy era. The film interested me because of many comparable similarities today and because the father of close childhood friends of mine had been included on the Hollywood-blacklist.

When I lived in San Francisco in the nineties, my friend Michelle told me about a lesbian couple who were looking for frozen sperm together. At that time I was married to a man, and I thought Michelle was talking about some people who wanted to breed cocker spaniels.

The W.H. Must Do More for Older LGBT Cancer Survivors

Liz Margolies, L.C.S.W.

The single biggest risk factor for developing cancer is age and older LGBTQ people are more likely to be living alone when cancer strikes. While we might wish that a lifetime of family rejection would be reversed upon hearing of a cancer diagnosis, sadly that is not always the case.

Religion aside, I firmly believe that those who argue that homosexuality is a choice do so in order to justify senseless beatings of gays and lesbians, and continued discrimination and mistreatment against them. I also believe without a doubt that it is a choice to be a nasty human being.
