Rejection can be hard to take, and even harder not to take personally. But with the right mindset, I've been able to keep my heart open and my chin up, to recognize that rejection has an upside: it helps me be a better person.
First I saw a flash of fire and felt as if I'd been punched in my lower pelvis. No pain, just impact. No sound, either, though people a block away heard a crack. Neighbors also heard Susan scream, which I didn't. But I did know what had happened, and I told Susan: "He shot me!"
