I love the idea of Thanksgiving -- a day to remind us to give thanks, and I wish it were celebrated right across the world. Our lives would be transformed if we got into the habit of giving thanks, not just on one day of the year, but every day.
When you inherit money it usually accompanies a very emotional time. You may be still grieving over a lost relative or friend. Sometimes the sudden wealth from an inheritance can create even more stress in your life.
In 2012, we sold my mother's house. My parents bought the house in 1965, a four-bedroom colonial on Long Island. The 'For Sale' sign on the corner was an insult at first, but we convinced ourselves, my sisters and I, that the house would not sell quickly -- we had plenty of time. We were wrong.
Due to the "great recession" we have become increasingly more time crunched and more thoughtful about over-spending. It only makes sense that with these changes in our lives we have also seen a change in our philosophy toward re-gifting.
