The "Like a Girl" advertisement that aired on Super Bowl Sunday was inspiring. And so are the many women and girls across the globe who overcome seemingly insurmountable odds on a daily basis. Let us not forget what it means to act "like a girl" - not just athletically, but in terms of human prosperity and a more just world.
Why are so many girls, especially girls of color, confined in our nation's detention facilities, and what are we as a society going to do about it? We must all work tirelessly to give hope and a fair chance to these girls and all children by promoting policies, programs, and supports that help them and their families, especially those most at risk.
Planning and preventing pregnancy is not only a personal choice; it's a human right that saves lives, combats poverty, and helps to close the inequality gap. But more than that it's a crucial requirement for slowing population growth and, in turn, saving the planet from its greatest threat--climate change.
