As a monotheistic religion, Vodou holds that there is one God, but adherents also believe that individual behavior is guided by spirits called "loas" (or "lwas"). Many of these spirits are what we'd consider lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, gender-fluid, androgynous or dual-gendered.
