Since the 1990s (roughly), television has regularly portrayed being gay in a much more positive light. Forty years later, however, abortion has not made the same leap toward acceptability on television.
Why not force gays and lesbians to watch heterosexual pornography before they get hitched in the handful of states where they can legally marry? Maybe by watching men and women having sex, gays and lesbians will realize the error of their sinful ways!
Would so many individuals -- 'Racers for the Cure' and celebrities alike -- rise up in protest? My guess is no, they would not -- and this is the power of the stigma around abortion. When access to health care is limited by money or geography, we cannot afford to limit it further with politics.
Americans want Congress to create jobs and fire up the economy, so yesterday the House of Representatives passed new restrictions on abortion -- restrictions that will affect millions. Can we connect these dots?!
