At this point in my life as a parent (8.5 years!), I don't really think about my parenting choices, at least not in the way I used to when my first child was a baby. It basically works, and if it doesn't, I'm too tired to question it.
Despite all that we might have heard about the value of "letting go" or non-attachment, we have all, at times, found that it's difficult to actually do it. Even when holding on is painful, oftentimes we do it anyway.
Open hands remind me that I am deserving of goodness. I am worthy, willing and capable. I refuse to let past rejection, fears, insecurities and previous losses stop me from being ready to receive this time.
