I imagine that most people who read the news every day wonder how anyone could think what Boko Haram and ISIS are doing is right. And yet some people clearly do; the more bigoted, sexist and violent these groups' behavior becomes, the more volunteers flock to their banners. Nothing, it seems, varies quite so much as people's values.
Teeth, yes teeth. It is a fact of life that as one ages you need close and loving friends - but for many - like me - you have one terrible, implacable enemy - your teeth. Over time, one by one, mine have rebelled or decided to crack, abandon me, and abscond with my cash - far worse than the person who picked my pocket last week.
It is time for us to recognize that the root cause for societal ills is the erosion of human values. Each one of us needs to come forward and take responsibility to re-establish a caring and sharing attitude, a sense of belongingness, a commitment to serve -- the core spiritual values that are the basis for a healthy, happy and harmonious society.
