If Erika Harold prevails she would become the first female African-American Republican congressman in American history. There have been black male Republican congressmen, but never a black woman on the GOP side from any state.
The Illinois GOP wants to convince voters that it's ready again to run an entire state - the nation's fifth most populous. But it will all remain a sad fantasy as long as we're stuck with officials who can't even run a decent meeting of an organization that's now scarcely more than a little club.
If a guy can't even get the simple stuff within a shrinking party organization of which he is a part, why would we possibly trust him with the government of an entire state -- especially one as large and important as Illinois?
