Hillary's e-mail controversy is a real nagging problem. Why not just carry two devices, one for the official address and one for the private address? It's a curious unforced error. But the smoke signals haven't amounted to a smoking gun.

The thing about septic workplaces is that, like a particularly bad cult, they take over your mind, they destroy your confidence, and thus they have the power to inflict life-long damage on your career, and by extension, your personal life.

The irony of it all: Jones may have drawn more attention to his testimony by not disclosing his ties than he would have by being transparent about them up-front, as required by the House.

The transition from Jim Jones to Thomas Donilon as National Security Advisor is unlikely to change anything of paramount importance. Donilon is not an ideas man at a time when a fresh strategic perspective is essential for breaking from our self destructive behavior in Afghanistan/Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Palestine and in the pervasive 'war on terror' generally. So long as General David Petraeus is allowed to call the shots with his legend on the line, and other senior administration officials are off on their own ego trips, costly miscalculations, as we've seen of late, will recur.
