It is good that the New York Times has a "Public Editor" to keep an eye on the paper's ethics. But sometimes, it seems like valuable column space is wasted chastising Times staffers for minor missteps.
It is not whether families earning $250,000 are paying more or less taxes that is of visceral concern. The public still feels they have been held up and the Wall Street perpetrators are laughing all the way to bank.
The whole point of the Internet is that customers choose what they want to do online, and companies, which offer services and features, have the opportunity to supply them. It is not a cable system; it is the "sacred Internet."
Gary Rivlan notes in his book, Broke USA, "the working poor have become big business." You wouldn't think that poor people would be a growth market, but businesses make big money off people who live paycheck to paycheck.
