Don't look now but there's a media-driven scandal brewing at the NYPD. It's gotten so bad, so fast that Mayor de Blasio and his police commissioner slapped together a meeting with reporters on a Sunday afternoon in order to rail against the press.
I would never vote for something that I believe would compromise the safety of families in our community. But we cannot keep New York City safe by profiling our neighbors based on their race, religion, sexual orientation, or immigration status.
What the mayor offered New Yorkers Tuesday was a pep rally for his failing proposition that our city has to choose between better policing and safer streets, between saving lives and protecting our Constitutional rights.
Dear Occupy Wall Street: I congratulate you on what you have achieved and I hope you take time to decide how the movement will move forward in a constructive manner. Occupy a new space? Get involved electorally? Actively work to reform policy?
