Frank Langella, at his estimable best, is not to be overlooked. Here he is, once more, in the Manhattan Theatre Club production of Florian Zeller's The Father. At his best, yet again, and not to be missed.
Early on, we are told that Ode to Joy is "the story of how the pain goes away." At the end they say "forgiving is giving up the option for revenge" and "true joy is acceptance." In between there is talk of Jesus, Hitler, Elvis, the torturous breaking wheel of the Middle Age, and Auschwitz.
Going to see Ivanov was one of the first times I'd left my Long Island City neighborhood since the storm and despite an hour on the train and then walking 30 or so blocks to get there, it was very welcome indeed.
