The politics of respectability in the black community may not only hinder us from acting and engaging in the constructive protest, lobbying and collective action needed to create a more just society, as it has with respect to the Ferguson protests, but it may also prevent us from simply being and living freely.
This week I caught up with Brandiilyne Dear in hopes that our interview and the documentary she appears in, L Word Mississippi: Hate the Sin, might make it easier for those who are suffering with an inability to reconcile their religion with their sexuality to find the support that she is building in the South.
Each week I receive hundreds of letters from feminine lesbians worldwide who feel invisible. These raw and often emotional messages inspired me to produce this video. Its intention is to help more women realize that their feelings regarding their sexual orientation are legitimate and that they are not alone.
