Even within the borders of equality states -- and across the country, the vestiges of laws that denigrate, demean, and degrade, of course, remain. For each legal victory, there are still far too many personal defeats for LGBT Americans.
The average American estimates that about a quarter of the population is gay. This is probably a very substantial overestimation, but at least more plausible than sexual orientation surveys, which, depending on methodology, find that just 3.5 percent of the population is LGBT.
While everyone in the film was fascinating, there was one couple that truly captured my heart. They called themselves the Harolds, an elderly gay couple living together in Washington D.C. and partners for longer than most couples could ever imagine, gay or straight.
