With poverty, animals damaging cropland can be devastating. Poachers tearing down fences are not always the poachers for elephants but sometimes local residents who are so poor that they rely on the game in the park to feed their family.

Liwonde National Park is the jewel of the national park system in Malawi. Drawing on the expertise of the PCGS, the IFAW, local Malawians and many other collaborators, the vision for a model National Park sustainable tourism plan in Africa just may become a reality.
