Say whatever else you want to about 2014, here's one thing I know for sure. It had 365 days. And since new movies opened on screens across the USA on a great many of those days, I feel compelled to consider the year in films.
For every progressive film or TV show made, there are at least a dozen more undoing its positive influence. One can watch an early '60s flick like Lover Come Back and find almost the same character attributes to females in a movie like The Other Woman, released this past April.
The domination, killing, destruction, increased work and effort of modern society are not the hallmarks of intelligence, but rather stupidity. How can we use the 10% of our mental capacity more intelligently and effectively? Here are a few ideas:
So basically now I'm thinking we're everywhere and nowhere; we're all the same; there is no such thing as time, or at least it's very slippery; today is tomorrow; I am he as you are he as you are me and we are all together; AND, to top it all off, we can all live forever.
I love what Hollywood could be, but I must say that I don't love what it is. I can't accept that while my daily life is filled with black and brown women, they are completely absent, erased, when I look at a TV or movie screen.
On a summery Sunday afternoon in Beverly Hills, I was suddenly thrust into the watery bayou swamps of southern Louisiana, and engrossed in a story, and a world, which has not left my thoughts since for even a moment.
