The truth is that the sanity of the majority of the American people never had to be restored. It has been there all along. What was lacking was the passion and the commitment to make sane ideas happen in the face of fear and opposition.
Up until now, you could lose your job for saying intemperate things about Jews, Christians and Matt Drudge. You could even lose a job for failing to defame Muslims. But we seem to be in undiscovered country at the moment.
If any of the TARP banks were to default on their debt, taxpayers would be on the hook. Were that to happen, WaPo's readers would have every right to complain, "But you guys told us that the 'Wall Street bailout' was over!"
