Cable news, like talk radio, has coarsened our culture, turning it into a daily sideshow for loudmouths and know-nothings. It's all about the perceived best way to get ratings -- by keeping the pot stirred.

My agenda: to find out what beats beneath the Savage breast of talk radio, to find serenity among a group of station owners, managers, and syndicators who are all but certain to bark that a "liberal" talk show will never work.
Now the right will claim that it is the left that is hateful and violent and that the left is "just as bad" or worse. To that I say: Prove it. If liberals are truly more violent than conservatives, this should be an easy task.
