See what happened there? Those three simple letters changed everything. All of a sudden it wasn't that I couldn't do something...but that I couldn't do it at this moment. And, if I wanted to, I could do it in the future.
There are metrics for measuring goals, P&L statements to show bottom-line profits and trophies to reflect triumph however, there is not a gauge to measure character and integrity -- central to creating a successful business with loyal employees while enjoying a respected reputation.
Instead of fearing what might happen in the unknown, instead of imagining and trying to pre-control worst-case scenarios, we can plan as best we can... and then move forward with a sense of curiosity. We can let things progress, and then respond as needed.
Celebrity culture has grown in recent decades and this is to be expected, as time will claim our heroes and influencers with greater frequency. It's creating a new paradigm in our journey towards accepting our own mortality.
It's not in my nature to take a pause for something when I'm dedicated to getting it done a certain way. But what I know is that stopping and asking myself if there might be an easier way is worth the potential time and energy I would save.
Starting now, we need to get over ourselves. We need to know that, sometimes, looking bad is actually a good thing...because it means we're trying something new, we're stretching ourselves, we're taking on a new adventure.
