The show is based around the partnership of two DEA officers, Steve Murphy and Javier Peña, and their hunt for the Colombian drug lord/Fortune 500 member/philanthropist/most dangerous criminal in the world/brief congressman Pablo Escobar.
I try, for even a moment, to imagine what that must be like, to write in daily fear of harassment and death over... what? Revealing harsh truths everyone already knows? Exposing realities few in the world seem to care about anymore?
When I mentioned I was going to spend Christmas photographing Juárez -- where upwards of 4,000 people have been murdered in the last two years -- people reacted as if I was planning a trip to Somalia. They were not that far off.
