A handful of Native Americans that have spent their lives as newspaper reporters, editors or publishers are wondering where journalism is headed in Indian Country. I can't answer that question, but I would like to give a shout-out to the great Indian journalists I have known.

Native newspaper men and women and Native journalists across America lost one of their best friends. Al Neuharth grew up in a small South Dakota town and he never forgot his roots, nor did he ever forget the Native Americans that made up a large portion of the state's population.
