For a variety of reasons -- including the fact that I am very interested in the damaged status of representational painting after World War II -- I posted the image on my Facebook status and asked a question: Can a painting so tainted by history ever be seen with fresh eyes again?
Authorities in Germany have found a huge cache of artwork that was originally plundered by the Nazis. These paintings, with their enduring beauty, have survived. It's an inspiring story, similar to the Jewish people.
The photos and scholarship surrounding Hitler's touring the 1938 Nazi Art Exhibition (and every one from 1937 through 1944) isn't exactly unknown. But that's the point. Apparently, we can't get enough of Hitler.
