Music blogger and playwright Richard Fulco has recently released his debut novel, There Is No End to This Slope. The book is equal parts love letter and bitter reproach to New York, as seen through the eyes of his struggling protagonist, John Lenza. Richard talks about the unexpected challenges of completing his first novel while balancing work and family.
There is statistical evidence showing that adult women read more novels than men, attend more book clubs than men, use libraries more than men, buy more books than men, take more creative writing courses than men, and probably write more works of fiction than men. If women suddenly stopped reading, the novel would nearly disappear.
It's not a science experiment, though, so I'll sign off with a different conclusion: Find a way to get readers. Any way you can think of, anything you think might work. Be prolific, be professional, and be available on social media for them. Maybe, if you're very lucky, the stampede will turn in your direction.
