Paula Deen is an easy target. Temporarily destroying her career is a soothing balm for a national soul tortured by what to do about the current scourge of racism and inequality that is not a remnant of the past but a policy of the present.
In a divisive education policy conversation which pits one set of schools and politicians against another, educators must lead the charge to learn from other schools. We must stand on the shoulders of those who work alongside us.
It is time to hold Bloomberg and the DOE for failing our children and orphaning our schools. As Meryl Tisch recently made clear, if it is let up to the Bloomberg administration, "these kids don't have a shot."
