'Dazed And Confused' Would Never Work Today

On Thursday night, Dazed and Confused celebrated its 20th birthday with a special screening at New York Film Festival, which was attended by director Richard Linklater and a handful of cast members. I have to admit, the fact that Dazed and Confused is somehow already 20 years old didn't really surprise me - this is mostly due to the fact that I remember where I was when the Dazed and Confused soundtrack used to play on a never-ending loop on my CD player in 1993.

'The Secret Like Of Walter Mitty' Is Filled With Earnest Sap

The Secret Life of Water Mitty, which debuted on Saturday at the New York Film Festival, is for saps. I'm using the word "sap" in the most positive way possible. (And, I'll admit, I am a bit of a sap because I enjoyed The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.) Mitty's greatest asset - its earnestness - may be, at the same time, its greatest detriment, because this is the year 2013 and "earnestness" is not always looked upon as a desirable attribute these days. And, boy isWalter Mitty earnest.

The 51st New York Film Festival is in full swing with quite the lineup of films this particular year. Upcoming still are the world premiers of Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Spike Jonze's Her. Though, here, we present a round up of what we've already seen, which includes much anticipated titles like Captain Phillips, the Coen brother's Inside Llewyn Davis, and Richard Curtis' About Time. So, yes, why don't we get on with it already and round them up in a handy capsule format, just for you...

The latest offering from Joel and Ethan Coen -- which screened at the New York Film Festival on Thursday morning for press and industry personnel ("Inside Llewyn Davis" makes its proper New York Film Festival debut on Oct. 5) -- stars Isaac as the title character, a down-on-his-luck folk singer in 1961 who, as an embittered former lover (played to perfection by Carey Mulligan) says at one point, is "like King Midas' idiot brother." Everything that Davis touches, from a friend's cat to the promise of a warm winter coat, goes right into the crapper.
