Here's some more good news that happened in spite of the current Congress, which has been more interested in weakening the Clean Air Act than enforcing it. During the past two decades, the air in our national parks has dramatically improved.
Last November, Obama used the Antiquities Act to protect Virginia's Fort Monroe, an important and symbolic Civil War site. It was an admirable choice, but so far it has been his only choice. If I were president for a day, I'd start with these three.
Friends had asked me, a former national park ranger, if I think "the national park story" will be interesting enough to capture and maintain an audience's attention (read: theirs). I emphatically told them yes.
