The politics of taxes have changed. Affluent Americans are increasingly okay about paying higher taxes, especially if the new funds are used to invest in things like education, infrastructure, and scientific research.
Let's not pretend Democratic health reform doesn't include new taxes -- and mandated fee payments to profitable private companies. If their bill passes in this form they'll pay a heavy political price for it. And they'll deserve it.
John McCain's official website would make it seem as if corporate taxes are somehow crippling American business. But two-thirds of the corporations doing business in the U.S. paid no taxes from 1998-2005, while collectively reporting $2.5 trillion dollars in sales.
