Last year -- Oct. 21 to be exact -- hordes of fanboys celebrated Back to the Future Day, which was the date in which Marty McFly traveled to save his children in Back to the Future Part II. Well, fittingly, the cinematic year of 2015 was all about going back in time.
Some years were quieter celebrations, but just as ceremonial. Even watching them on my own, I bowed to the sense of occasion. I lined up my time-honored snacks, burrowed under my favorite quilt and glued myself to the proceedings, shouting at the screen the entire time.
The first bright face I saw at the Producers Guild's Awards Show at the Beverly Hilton was our own Marlo Thomas, there to present an award named for her father, Danny Thomas, (who is truly a founding father of television), for episodic television for Louie.
