I was auditioning for commercials and bit parts in LA. It was a huge, risky leap for me to make. I hated the question of 'What do you do?' I never felt comfortable saying I was an actor until the day I met Philip Seymour Hoffman.
We'll likely learn a great deal more about Hoffman, his drug use and his personal demons. Some will likely call his death a 'teachable moment.' But we need to ensure that what we're teaching includes information that can save lives.
