GOP's promises were no surprise. What did surprise me is the total disregard for black people in the new Pledge to America. Usually, the Republicans do a decent job of at least pretending to care about people of color.
In 1928, the Republicans promised Hoover's victory would assure the prosperity of "a chicken in every pot." This week, the GOP proffered a similar pledge to America: instead of a "chicken in every pot" they're pledging a salmonella-poisoned egg.
The GOP Pledge is not simply an unfortunate return to the bad old days of government on behalf of special interests rather than the public interest; it is a reckless step toward undermining the very foundation of our government.
The Republicans' 'Pledge for America' introduces an agenda built on fear: fear of government, fear of change, fear of minorities, and fear of the rich and powerful having to share power with ordinary people.
