The recent spotlight on systematic racial profiling and police brutality against Black boys and men has exposed a painful truth long known in the Black community: just about every Black youth and man seems to have a story about being stopped by the police.
I grew up with a stutter. Does this mean I shouldn't have pursued journalism because I stutter? Does this mean I shouldn't conduct interviews, speak up in meetings or ask questions when I want more clarification?
The people who carry guns and wear uniforms in the name of public service have to respect and obey civilians and civilian authority or else they are an occupying army. And that's what everyone demonstrating in the streets of America is complaining about.
