Who are these religious elitists with the audacity to question the faith of others, based on their indoctrinated theology? These supposed leaders are waging battles outside the church they've not yet won inside the church.
Pastors should indeed celebrate the beauty, joy and miraculous mystery of life, but to focus on this while not tempering this with an acknowledgment of struggle, doubt and, yes, suffering, is to offer false prophecy.
There is nothing funny about bullying, nothing funny about child suicide. And yet it's not merely humor but pretty full recognition of our less than friendly impulses, that can save us from the pent up kind.
