Feminism's links with reproductive freedom go deeper. It means treating women as human beings rather than baby-making machines. It's recognition that women have talents and skills to offer the world beyond their ability to procreate. You can want women to do better, but you simply can't be a feminist if you won't stand up for reproductive freedom.
Will this label change make medication abortion more feasible in states facing medically unnecessary, politically motivated restrictions or will politicians with the goal of limiting abortion access just continue to find new ways to restrict access? Time will tell, but this new action from the Food and Drug Administration seems to be a step in the right direction.
There was a great deal of consternation last week when Donald Trump suggested that women who undergo an abortion should be incarcerated. I share that consternation. But I also feel that consternation when Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and other men (always a man, never a woman) suggest that doctors who perform an abortion should be incarcerated.
