There is a lot of talk in health care today about "patient-centered" care. Sadly, my recent experience with the health care system seems to show that we are more of a paper-centered system of care right now.
Where quality improvement was once a glimmering idealistic notion conjured up by a few pockets of ambitious doctors, it is fast becoming recognized as a permanent fixture in our nation's medical infrastructure.
I'm always surprised that some people still buy into the myth that America has the greatest health system in the world. We spend so much money on health care, but those dollars have not translated to good health.
