The New York Philharmonic is a strange creature. Often it is good but a bit bland. Sometimes it's downright boring. And sometimes it makes you sit up in your seat and think what a historical and good orchestra this is.
It is so rare to hear a musician who does not pander to an audience's inclination to be impressed by the dramatic and the extreme highs and lows of emotion, that when one does come across such a performer, it leaves a lasting imprint.
