President Obama did the right thing when he decided to kick visitors out of the White House. The visitors budget was slashed by the sequester so they ended the tours, but they should have done it a long time ago. Tourists shouldn't be traipsing around the house where the president lives.
Leadership isn't solely about outcomes -- plenty of great leaders (Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Vince Lombardi, Michael Jordan), suffered losses. Leadership is setting the right course. And the president is actually leading.
For the avoidance of doubt, I oppose the sequester, and I oppose budget cuts at this time in our economic recovery. One cannot help but observe, however, that the sequester is a political minefield for Republicans.
I get that both sides are trying to position themselves to not get blamed for this totally preventable, self-inflicted wound, but here are some facts that belie this ridiculous Republican disowning of a policy they supported.
