Response Ability

Steven Serba wrote to me with a great example of the messiness of being directionally correct and still achieving a great personal outcome. His is a story of overcoming addiction and homelessness through the power of personal response-ability.

You already know the generalization approach: "These things never...," "I always...," etc. With deletions, the critic simply omits inconvenient data points, and the distortion approach simply twists what has been said to fit the argument.

Choosing to whine and blame is a choice just as much as choosing to do something about your circumstances, but one is more likely to produce a meaningful result than the other.

I know all too well that getting unstuck is rarely going to be easy and that working around what's in the way is often messy. However, there are four basic keys I have discovered that you can apply.
