Immigration reform would yield $1.5 trillion to the US GDP over a ten-year period. Every day we wait, our economy loses hundreds of thousands of dollars in tax revenue and consumer spending.

Lesbian and gay Americans do not have the right to sponsor their foreign national partners for residency. They are forced to rip their families apart, or leave their own country to be with the person they love.

With Republicans now in the majority in the House of Representatives, many policies will probably change radically. What must not change, however, is work on immigration reform.

Organizers say they are expecting tens of thousands -- if not hundreds of thousands -- of members of the LGBT community and their supporters on Sunday. But one couple will be notably absent.

Millions of families remain separated because of bureaucratic paper trails and discriminatory policies that do not recognize gay families for the purposes of equal immigration rights.
