San Francisco Playhouse Debuts Bay Area Premiere of 'Stupid F*cking Bird'

Jason Mannino | Posted 04.14.2015 | San Francisco
Jason Mannino

Stupid Fucking Bird, like The Seagull, is mostly about love, art, hope, and disappointment," said playwright Aaron Posner. "It pits passionate dreams of ideal love and artistic success against the simple hard realities of quotidian life."

Why Aren't Spas on TripAdvisor?

If TripAdvisor had a spa category, it would allow the public to zoom in on which spas provide the type of service they need. Specialists could be identified for resolving targeted beauty issues for fast growing market segments including ethnic women and men.

2 Thumbs Up! But Does It Really Matter?

The best way to handle reviews is to take them with a grain of salt. While you can't always consider the source since most reviews are anonymous, just take the good with the bad (or the good with the better) and interview vendors on your own.

CD Review: 'The Great Escape' by The Great Escape

Christopher Zoukis | Posted 04.01.2015 | Arts

The Great Escape, by design or by happenstance, is perfect for Top 40 radio. It's commercial and mainstream, while distinctive enough to avoid being classified as familiar or, worse, ordinary.

Thriving With Arianna Huffington -- A Must Read

After reading Thrive I developed a healthy "attitude" and vibrant outlook on my life. I remind myself to appreciate all that is God given and be thankful for all my blessings. It has deepened my faith and instilled how important it is to always be kind and humble.

CD Review: Reviver by The Torn Images

Christopher Zoukis | Posted 03.31.2015 | Arts
Christopher Zoukis

Like Nirvana, The Torn Images are dependent upon driving, fuzz-busting guitars. For example, the opening track "The Drifting" begins with thrumming guitars that presage a real rock-out. Unfortunately, the guitars just keep thrumming, along with the addition of drums and bass.

Zaki's Review: Blackhat

Zaki Hasan

Honestly, this was a rough one. Whether we're talking about the overly-complicated story, the overly-simplistic dialogue, or the clunky pacing, Blackhat is such a smorgasbord of missteps that it's genuinely hard to divine what the filmmakers' actual intent even was.

Wicked Audio Raven Headphones Review

They look cheap, feel flimsy and sound muddy, but at under $30 for an on-ear headphone you could do worse. That's the downside for the Wicked Audio Raven. The upside? That low price and the fun colors.

I'm happy projects like this take a step toward educating people, and take many steps toward supporting AIDS/HIV services and research organizations through sales proceeds.

Are Those TripAdvisor Reviews Reliable?

Some reviewers feel entitled and use the reviews to extract or obtain freebies from the hotels. Commenters who have a low number of reviews or a pattern of posting numerous harsh or auspicious reviews are dubious.

It is a truth widely known fact that if you're fortunate enough to have written and published a book and lucky enough to have people talk about it, comments will run the gamut from good to bad, with many shades of mediocre in between.

Should Employees Review Their Bosses?

Asking your employees for a review is an amazing opportunity for you to grow as a leader and manager. Just keep an open mind, write down any feedback, and be willing to change.

Theater Review: Stoppard's The Real Thing From Roundabout Theater

We have a lot of fun watching these couples flirt, banter and reconcile, yet there's an absence of true emotion that left me feeling lighter than I should have in a play about jealousy, knowledge and the preservation of one's self in a marriage.

Unfortunately, Reviews on Yelp Cannot Be Relied Upon for Vetting Purposes

Mark Baer | Posted 11.27.2014 | Business
Mark Baer

I would be highly suspect in relying upon Yelp reviews in the future. I wish this were not true because it just makes it that much more difficult and confusing for customers to locate "real evidence" that is so essential to properly vet products and services.

The Bad Review (Of My Own Book) That Made Me Laugh

Lev Raphael | Posted 11.10.2014 | Books

This nimrod didn't compare my adult thriller to any other book in my Nick Hoffman mystery series, but wholly inappropriately compared it to a children's self-help book. And reached a conclusion 100% at odds with what actually happens in the novel and what it means.

Why would someone bother reviewing a product or service that has been reviewed 3,795 times already, given that writing a review takes time and effort? Many websites will insist that the review be a certain number of words, in addition to asking the customer to provide a rating. So why put in all that time and effort when other people have already done so?
