If being governor of New York was a normal job, David Paterson might have made a go of it. But in Albany, it's the legislature that rules. To have any influence on that clan of bozos, a governor has to be very able and very tough.
From a business perspective, nothing could be worse during this period of economic uncertainty than the chaos and instability that have characterized New York state government during the past two years.
The state's new sort-of-lieutenant-governor is Richard Ravitch. It would be an honor to be appointed to the second highest job in the state - if it weren't for the fact that the whole deal is probably going to be thrown out in court.
