Today we have conductor Scott Speck with us to talk about the music for the Joffrey's upcoming Russian Masters program. The company will perform Nijinsky's "Le Sacre du Printemps," or "The Rite of Spring," with music by Stravinsky.
The opportunity to bring together the highly trained dancers of Jones's company with the gifted actors of Bogart's troupe allowed for a collaboration that could recapture the visceral, interdisciplinary action of the original Rite.
"These two blocks -- from the 12 Preludes by Debussy and the 12 Symphonic Etudes by Schumann -- are compositions by two very different composers, but both of them share a great fantasy, and they are masters of the intimate world."
Tonight in Chapel Hill, N.C., Yo Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble will give the world premiere of Dmitry Janov-Janovsky's hour-long Stravinsky fantasy called Sacred Signs at the University of North Carolina.
